Red Panda Network
Founded by Brian Williams in 2007, Red Panda Network has become a world leader in efforts to protect red pandas and their habitat.
They work with local communities in Nepal to serve as active partners in the conservation of wild red pandas and their habitat.
The red panda is the original panda, discovered some 50 years before the giant panda! These carnivores have adapted to eat almost exclusively bamboo. The red panda is the only specie remaining in the taxonomic family, a living relict of the past. Saving these animals is important to the preservation of the world’s natural heritage and global biodiversity.

In 2020, you helped us adopting the red panda Paaru!
Paaru lives in Ilam district’s Padmasambhaw Community Forest with her two cubs. She is one of ten wild red pandas equipped with collars during Nepal’s first-ever GPS-satellite collar study. The name Paaru in Hindu culture signifies the sun, fire, and goddess Parvati.
Thanks to you, we were able to symbolically adopt her!
The money redistributed is served to support the reforestation of degraded areas near her home.
Threats
Habitat loss is the number 1 threat for red pandas. The global red panda population has declined by 50% over the last 20 years due to the rapid human population growth. Livestock herding is another threat to the red panda’s habitat as well as the roaming dogs protecting the livestock from predators. They usually kill red pandas.
Poaching and illegal trade are on the rise and harms red pandas ‘ populations. Finally, climate change is another big threat for red pandas, more frequent droughts, snowfalls, and floods, all resulting in shifting vegetation zones in the Himalayas
